About Me
Tham Jiang Jun began his music journey when he was 7 years old after starting playing the piano under Dale Huang. He picked up the Dizi when he was at 11 years of age under dedicated guidance from Mr. Tan Qing Lun, who was a Dizi soloist in Ding Yi Music Company. At an age of 14, he managed to attain his Diploma in performance (Merit) from the Beijing Central Conservatory of Music and a high distinction in the ABRSM Grade 8 Piano examinations. His outstanding potential had secured him as one of Singapore’s representative in the 2015 Shanghai Conservatory of Music Programme 2015 under the counsel of Professor Zhan Yong Ming. In his pursuit of musical excellence, he was awarded 2nd in the Dizi Youth Category organised by the National Arts Council (NAC) in the biennial National Chinese Music Competition (2010).

Jiang Jun is the founding member and key soloist at Ding Yi Youth Ensemble, and led the ensemble to attain 1st Prize in the 2014 National Arts Council Chinese Instrumental Competition just within a short year of formation. The Ding Yi Youth Ensemble staged its inaugural concert in August 2015 at Raffles Jubilee Hall and he had served as the organising executive committee. He was also involved as a soloist and the organising committee for the Singapore Chinese Music Federation’s Singapore Dizi Festival held in Jul 2015. The event was the first of its kind in Singapore and involved inviting several renowned Dizi Maestros and students from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music to stage a 3-day performance in collaboration with Singaporean Dizi musicians.
In the never-ending quest of musical improvement, Jiang Jun self-taught himself the western flute and eventually joined the AdioImage Wind Ensemble led by Clarence Tan. Subsequently, he joined the National University of Singapore (NUS) Symphony Orchestra under Lim Soon Lee and is currently privileged to be under the tutelage of the highly sought-after renowned flutist, Wang Tong. In addition, he had taken part under the Chamber Chorale Singing Programme at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music led under the musical direction of Jenifer Tham. Jiang Jun teaches both piano and dizi, and had taught in schools such as Bedok South Secondary, Siglap Secondary School, Maris Stella High School, Greenridge Primary School and Catholic High School.

Jiang Jun had served in the executive committee of the National University of Singapore Symphony Orchestra as a Treasurer, in managing the finances required of the orchestra. He had also gained valuable arts management expertise during his tenure at the TENG Ensemble where he worked on establishing the TENG Academy; an educational outreach effort aimed to advance knowledge in Chinese music and enhance the arts ecosystem.
